JOY Sessions at schools, youth centres and children’s homes – This is a remarkable partnership between The UP and Secret Sunrise – we take the Secret Sunrise dance and our joyful tools to learners of all ages.
Through the 45-60min session the learners play, dance and experience the joys of being creative and playful again – all through music appreciation and getting our bodies active again.
In June 2022, The UP completed the first ever UP4JOY Young People’s Programme in Greyton in the Western Cape. This 8 week gamified programme empowered young people to participate in key tasks to improve their own wellbeing, linked them to mentors and work opportunities, and inspired them to live in JOY.
During the course of the UP4JOY 8 week game, participants received rewards in the form of food and pharmacy vouchers for successful task completion. Young people were paired with mentors who taught them skills including sewing, photography & food gardening. Community members were involved in to a Community Talent Show, midway through to celebrate the Young peoples’ progress. A ceremony was held on the 15th of June 2022 to celebrate the completion of the programme. We’re so impressed with the 18 young people who participated, and the 9 who completed the game. At least one participant has found employment as a result of the project, 6 have been trained as JOY facilitators (who will run our next UP4JOY programme), and the community connection, healing and JOY is immeasurable.
We tailor JOY sessions in person and online for children from previously disadvantaged communities.

Emotional and Mental Wellness is paramount to all humankind’s ability to be active citizens and their own abilities to be resourceful, creative and even innovative. It is our passion with The UP, to ensure all children receive access to these inspired joy sessions.
Our sessions are brought to Children’s Homes, Schools, Special Needs / Differently Abled homes and even partnered NPO’s community organisations.

Powerful 1-3 hour JOY Training sessions for children aged 12 and UP – these sessions equip the youth to become the source of JOY. Plus sessions for teachers too. Living joyfully, in an UPlifted state of of being – is a skill we have been passionately teaching since 2005.
Our sessions are tailor-made for all ages and support the learners / teachers to choose to be mindful, compassionate, empathic and as we put it; “practice being both human and KIND, no matter what the world gives us.”
